"In Georgia, the sales tax rules for precious metals depend on the type of item"

Tax Exempt Items:

  1. All rare or antique coins used as legal tender in the U.S. or other countries, including uncirculated coins and proofs, are exempt from sales tax. This exemption is based on their rarity, demand, condition, and mintage.

  2. Paper currency that was once legal tender in the U.S. or elsewhere, valued for its rarity, demand, and condition, is tax-exempt.

  3. Coins made from refined gold, silver, platinum, or palladium, whether minted in the U.S. or abroad, are tax-exempt. This includes coins whose value is influenced by the market price of precious metals and those suitable for IRA investment under 26 USCS § 408(m).

  4. Bars, ingots, or other forms composed of refined gold or silver with a purity of 99.5% or more, and platinum or palladium products meeting or exceeding a 90% purity level but not meeting higher fineness standards, are also exempt from sales tax.

Taxable at State Sales Tax Rate:

  1. Bars, ingots, or other forms containing refined precious metals of 99.95% purity or greater are taxable, except for those containing gold or silver with a purity of 99.5% or more, which are tax-exempt.

  2. Bars, ingots, or other forms that contain refined platinum or palladium of 90% purity or more but do not meet certain fineness standards are subject to state sales tax.

Sales taxes in Georgia are computed at checkout depending on the taxability of items offered by BOLD Precious Metals and the particular tax rates charged by the taxing authority of the delivery location in Georgia.
