Kansas Sales Tax Guide

This tax guide provides a detailed and technical, yet easy-to-read, overview of the state sales tax rules for BOLD Precious Metals in Kansas. BOLD is now required to collect state sales tax in Kansas. The following information details the current state requirements for Kansas.

"In Kansas, the sales tax rules for precious metals depend on the type of item"

Taxable at State Sales Tax Rate:

  1. Antique and rare coins, formerly accepted as official currency in the United States or various nations, possess value determined by scarcity, popularity, condition, and production quantity. This includes pristine coins and authenticated proofs.

  2. Paper currency, formerly accepted as official payment in the United States and other nations, now holds value determined by its scarcity, market demand, and state of preservation.

  3. Precious metal coins crafted from refined gold, silver, platinum, or palladium and produced in various nations, whose worth is influenced by the ever-changing market value of these valuable metals. According to the rules outlined in 26 USCS § 408(m), these coins can be added to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) and are commonly purchased as investment instruments.

Tax Exempt:

  1. Rare or antique coins, previously accepted as legal currency in countries other than the United States, hold value based on factors such as rarity, demand, condition, and mintage. These coins can include uncirculated pieces and proofs.

  2. Coins crafted from refined gold or silver, minted in countries outside the United States, derive their value from the ever-changing market prices of precious metals. These coins are commonly acquired as investments and typically meet or surpass the minimum fineness standards.

  3. Bars, ingots, or other forms containing highly pure gold with a fineness of 99.5% or refined silver with a fineness of 99.9%.
