The Silver Eagle is the world's most widely used bullion coin. American Silver Eagles are also highly regarded as a safe and reliable investment thanks to its accessibility, dependability, and beauty, The US Mint's Silver American Eagle Coin has become one of its all-time best-sellers. This Silver American Eagle Coin is available from BOLD Precious Metals for a fair silver price.
The United States Mint's American Silver Eagle coins were first minted in 1986. The only item offered under the Silver Eagle program is a coin weighing one troy ounce with .999 pure silver and a one dollar (USD) face value. On the coin's obverse and reverse sides, the US Mint has depicted Lady Liberty and the American bald eagle, respectively. The only alteration in the coin designs is the addition of a mint mark to the reverse of the proof coins.
There are three American Silver Eagle coins: uncirculated, proof, and burnished. Since 1986, the uncirculated, or bullion, coin has been offered annually. In 1986, the Silver proof Eagle was released simultaneously with the uncirculated coin. In order to meet the then-intense demand for silver, the US Mint was forced to cease the collectable coin manufacturing in 2009 and shift all silver blanks to the uncirculated program, which caused a pause in the proof coin's creation. On the occasion of the coin program's 20th anniversary and as a second collector alternative, burnished coins were released in 2006. Both in 2009 and 2010, production of the burnished coin was halted; however, it is now back in operation.
The Silver Eagle has an easily recognizable and iconic design. The Walking Liberty Half Dollar's obverse, designed by Adolph A. Weinman, first appeared in circulation in 1916. The words "Liberty" and "In God We Trust," as well as the coin's issue year, are written on its obverse. The reverse of the American Silver Eagle, which has a heraldic eagle with wings raised high and 13 stars to symbolize the 13 founding states, is where the coin gets its name. The coin bears the inscriptions "E Pluribus Unum," "The United States of America," and "1 oz Fine Silver One Dollar."
The United States Mint employs multiple minting methods for the coin's uncirculated, proof, and burnished varieties. The US Mint is required by law to supply the uncirculated version of the coin to comply with the Liberty Coin Act of 1985's rules. Demand for the investment-grade coin determines the exact mintage for the bullion American Silver Eagle. The first two years of availability contributed significantly to the highest mintage figures in the program's first 20 years. Still, the following few years of economic downturn caused the American Silver Eagle to surge even higher. The coin supply peaked in 2015 with the yearly issuance of 47 million Silver Eagles.
The mintage rates for the proof and burnished coins are different. Although it rarely happened, the Proof Silver Eagle once featured mintage caps that prevented it from selling out entirely in a given year. The US Mint eventually stopped using mintage limitations and just minted the pieces to satisfy collector demand. Despite this, the Proof Silver Eagle has never attained the kind of popularity that the Uncirculated Silver Eagle has. The 1.4 million coins sold in 1986, when the currency made its debut, remain the greatest mintage number for the Proof American Silver Eagle.
The uncirculated coin is an investment-grade coin with a low gloss to the finish. The collectible options of proof and burnished coins offer stunning visual qualities. However, they are made differently and have somewhat distinct visual characteristics. The Walking Liberty and heraldic eagle images on the obverse and reverse of the proof coin both have matte, frosted features. In addition, the proof coin’s backgrounds have a distinct, reflective appearance.
Burnished coins have a distinct appearance. The coins are first burned by a polishing agent while being rolled in a drum, which gives them a distinct optical brilliance that lies between proof and bullion coins. Employees wearing gloves touch each burnished coin with care. Then, to avoid any risk of human oils or other substances ruining the aesthetic appeal, each blank is lifted from the drum by a gloved hand, inserted into the coining press separately, struck apiece, and then immediately withdrawn and wrapped.
