Victoria's Riflebird

New for 2019, the obverse displays the 6th generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II to be displayed on Australian coins. The new portrait is based on that designed by Jody Clark of the Royal Mint for 2016. It is distinctively different, however, in that it displays the Queen's shoulders and full neckline. The band at the rim includes the inscriptions, "ELIZABETH II 2019 AUSTRALIA" at the top, and "1 DOLLAR" at the bottom.

The reverse of this 2019 1 oz Silver Australia Bird of Paradise Proof features the Victoria's Riflebird species. Although this bird was known by the indigenous as "duwuduwu," in 1848, Scottish naturalist, John Macgillivray recorded his sighting and named the bird after the current reigning monarch, Queen Victoria.

The male bird's coloring is velvet black, with a stunning plumage of iridescent greenish blue, purple, and bronze. When seeking to catch the eye of a female for mating, the male makes good use of these distinctive colors. The mating dance performed is particularly fascinating, which is reflected in this reverse design. In his dance, the bird extends his wings forward and lifts them up. He also lifts his head high, beckoning for his mate. Shown here perched upon a branch, the finely-detailed image is truly spectacular! Within the rim-band are the inscriptions, "AUSTRALIAN BIRD OF PARADISE . 1 oz 9999 SILVER." Just to the right at the base of the branch is displayed Perth Mint's "P" mintmark.

The remarkable presentation of this stunning Bird of Paradise, Victoria's Riflebird Proof edition is an excellent addition to this new Perth series. Includes a stylish grey display case and packaged within an illustrated shipper. Each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

With a limited mintage of only 2,500, we would recommend you not delay!
