The Royal Canadian Mint returns for a second release in their Creatures of the North 2 oz silver double-thick piedfort style series. The inaugural release featured the legendary massive beast of the sea, the feared Kraken. That first release set our expectations high for the creatures that would follow. We are certainly impressed with this striking new 2021 2oz Canada Creatures of the North - Werewolf Silver BU coin!

Vicious Creature of the Darkness

As a legal tender offering by the Royal Canadian Mint, the obverse of this 2020 2oz Silver Canada Creatures of the North - Werewolf BU coin displays the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, created by Susan Blunt. The background is filled with finely engraved lines forming a sunburst pattern. Inscriptions include "ELIZABETH II . 2021. D . G. REGINA . 10 DOLLARS."

Although somewhat ironic to offer a werewolf-themed coin minted in pure silver, the reverse design of this second offering in the Creatures of the North Canadian series casts any presumed irony to the wind. It is replaced by a dark and powerful image of one of the most fearsome werewolves you have ever seen or imagined. Crouching under the night sky, illuminated by a full-moon, this vicious creature is ready to take down its prey quickly. Filling the background is displayed the edge of the forest. The moon is overhead at the right and the maple leaf security to the left. The scene is captured in the center field by the wide rimband that is filled with finely-engraved radial sunburst lines. Inscriptions within the rimband include, "CANADA" at the top and "FINE SILVER 2 OZ ARGENT PUR." The .9999 fineness is positioned to the right of the werewolf image.

This is an incredibly fine follow-up to this highly anticipated new 2 oz double-thick piedfort style silver bullion series, Creatures of the North. We are looking forward to see how the unique series continues to develop over the coming releases.
