In 1896, gold was discovered in the Yukon Territory of Canada, giving rise to a stampede of prospectors to the region hoping to strike it rich. This rush of people to the area put Canada on the map as one of the leading producers of gold. As a result, the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa opened its world-class refinery. The Royal Canadian Mint continues to make incredible products, and now that they produce a coin of the highest standard in the world, they have set the bar high for their competitors. To honor this event, BOLD is proud to present the 2022 Canadian Klondike 1 oz Gold Coin, minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in .99999 fine gold, the highest standard of pure gold IN THE WORLD!
From the mint: The obverse of this coin has Sussana Blunt’s Queen Elizabeth II design. Here the Queen is facing to her left, but she is not wearing a crown. The result is a more casual look but yet she is still as regal as ever. She is wearing pearl earrings and a pearl necklace. Above her to the left is ‘ELIZABETH II’. To the right of her is ‘D.G. REGINA’, which is Latin for ‘By the Grace of God, Queen. Below her image is ‘200 DOLLARS’.
On the reverse of the coin is a familiar scene during the mining boom: a miner using a 'rocker.' In this scene, designed by Steve Hepburn, the miner scoops up water and some of the river bed and pours it into the rocker. He then rocks it back and forth, which shakes it across the mesh bottom, hoping for flakes or chunks of gold to be sifted out. Water pouring out of the pan over the coin's security mark, a maple leaf, adds a unique detail to the scene. The coin bears the signature radial lines of all Royal Canadian Mint bullion coins. It is presented in credit card-style packaging that includes a certificate of purity signed by the Mint's Chief Assayer. At the top of the coin is ‘CANADA 2022’. Below the image is ‘FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PURE’. Just above this in smaller font is ‘99999’.
