The Perth Mint has produced this remarkably well-designed silver coin as a timely reflection upon the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in 1945.
As noted by the mint, "Responsible for the death of an estimated 60 to 80 million soldiers and civilians, WWII was an international struggle that ended in 1945 following years of devastating battle. In 2020, 75 years on, the world stands ready to reflect upon the events of the war and acknowledge the enormity of the sacrifice and suffering it caused."
As a legal tender release by Australia, the obverse displays the 6th generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II to be displayed on Australian coins, designed by Jody Clark. Inscriptions within the rim-band include, "ELIZABETH II . AUSTRALIA . 1/10oz 9999 Ag . 2020 . 10 CENTS."
The reverse design of this special keepsake coin is truly poignant in its portrayal of the arrival of peace after such a protracted time of pain and loss inflicted during the years of war. The scene features a beautiful dove in flight, framed by two wreaths. Inscriptions include "END OF WORLD WAR II . 75th ANNIVERSARY." The Perth Mint "P" mintmark is displayed at the right rim.
