BOLD is excited to bring you the first coin in Cameroon's new "Man's Best Friends" series: The 22021 Cameroon Silver Man's Best Friend Husky Dog 28.28 Grams Coin. The relationship between dogs and humans is a bond that can be traced back for at least 15,000 years. For centuries, our canine companions have worked and played by our sides, guarding sheep, hunting prey, and serving vital roles with the police and military. They assist the blind, offer comfort to the disabled and know just when we’ve had a bad day and need a nuzzle. It’s no wonder they’ve earned the moniker of “Man’s Best Friend.” It’s also been said that every dog has its day, and that was never truer than on this coin that pays tribute to the faithful Saint Bernard — the first release between the nation of Cameroon and the prestigious Mint of Poland’s Man’s Best Friends coin series.
As noted by the mint:
"Struck in 28.28 grams of gleaming 92.5% Sterling silver, (the reverse of) this magnificent coin showcases a colorized image of a St. Bernard rescue dog sitting in the snow somewhere in the Swiss Alps, his left paw raised is if to point rescuers in the direction of someone in distress. In the background is a Swiss chalet that’s waiting for the injured. The words “SAINT BERNARD” and “YOUR LIFEGUARD” arc across the top of the design.
The coin’s obverse features pawprints and a heart. Completing this compelling tableau is the inclusion of a plastic inset that contains a 24-karat gold-plated, dog-shaped filigree. Inscriptions are: "REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN . 1000 FRANCS . 2021 . Ag 925."
