The 2018 EC8 Anguilla Lobster Colored Proof is the sixth issue in the 2010s' most unique bullion program in the Eastern Caribbean (EC8) Island Series. Coins in this series are legal tender for each island nation and were struck by Scottsdale Mint under the authority of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. With a worldwide mintage of only 2,500 pieces, this release ranks among the rarest issues in the entire program. The reverse features a vibrant spiny lobster, one of Anguilla's most important seafood exports and a symbol of the island itself.
The reverse showcases Anguilla's famous spiny lobster in striking natural colors created through Scottsdale Mint's multi-layer colorization process. Deep red tones dominate the design while swirling ocean currents and water droplets surround the lobster, creating a sense of movement and depth.
A ring of graduated dots around the rim is a signature design element shared across the EC8 series. The inscription "ANGUILLA" appears prominently at the top, while the date and purity are included within the design. The colorization is integrated during production, creating a distinctive collectible that differs significantly from a standard proof silver coin.
The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Raphael Maklouf. This design appears on all eight releases in the 2018 EC8 collection and was specially commissioned for these legal-tender coins.
The portrait is framed within a circular inset surrounded by decorative laurel branches. Inscriptions identify the issuing authority, face value, purity, and weight. Since Queen Elizabeth II passed away in 2022, this portrait now represents a historic chapter of the EC8 program that will not appear on future releases.
The EC8 program was developed through a partnership between the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) and Scottsdale Mint. The collection includes one coin representing each ECCB member nation: Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
Every 2018 release was limited to 2,500 pieces, resulting in a complete eight-coin series totaling just 20,000 coins worldwide. Each design celebrates a unique cultural or natural symbol associated with its respective island nation.
Anguilla is widely recognized for its exceptional seafood and vibrant culinary traditions. The spiny lobster featured on this coin is one of the island's most important seafood exports and a cornerstone of local cuisine influenced by African, French, Creole, and Spanish cultures.
This makes the coin more than a wildlife-themed collectible; it serves as a representation of Anguilla's economy, heritage, and cultural identity.
At BOLD Precious Metals, we only stock products that we would confidently purchase back from customers, and the EC8 Anguilla Lobster is one of them. With only 2,500 coins minted worldwide and no future production planned, collector demand plays a significant role in supporting its secondary-market appeal.
The EC8 series also benefits from set-completion demand. Collectors assembling the full eight-coin 2018 collection must obtain the Anguilla release, helping maintain long-term interest beyond fluctuations in silver prices. Our buy-back program offers competitive pricing, fast payouts, and no minimum quantity requirements.
Every EC8 coin we sell comes through official distribution channels as an Authorized Scottsdale Mint Dealer. If you find the same coin listed at a lower published price by another authorized dealer, our BOLD Pricing Guarantee allows us to match that price.
We also provide comparison tools that help customers evaluate pricing before making a purchase, often helping buyers save between 2% and 6% compared to larger online retailers.
BOLD Precious Metals maintains a 4.3 out of 5-star rating on Trustpilot based on 872 verified customer reviews. Customers frequently highlight fast shipping, secure packaging, and accurate grading descriptions, particularly for proof and colorized collectible silver coins.
