The lunar year of the ox is the second of the 12 animals that are celebrated annually during each 12-year cycle. Those born during the year of the ox, are said to be influence by traits somewhat reflective in the general behavior of the animal. The years designated in the 12 year cycle for the year of the ox are: 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021, and each succeeding twelfth year.

The reverse design features an ox with its head held high and turned, looking back over its left shoulder. The animal's large horns are partially curved, dangerously terminating to sharp points. It depicts a strong, proud, determined stance.
