Although somewhat of an unusual coin theme, the Tarot and Major Arcana is quite an intriguing subject, with its history beginning around the 15th century Europe. The coin is rectangular (vertical orientation), in the shape of a card. As a legal tender offering of Niue, the obverse displays the Ian Rank-Broadly effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II within an inset. Inscriptions include "ELIZABETH II . NIUE . TWO DOLLARS . 2021." An attractive pattern encircles the rim, as it normally would on a deck of cards.
The reverse features The Fool, the first card of the deck of 22 cards making up the Major Arcana (often considered "Greater Secrets)." Although the deck consists of 22 cards, only 21 of them bear a number. The first card, The Fool, bears a zero. The design and colorization of this rectangular coin are outstanding!
The Fool is depicted in the very colorful costume of a Jester. He is pictured juggling a number of cards while sitting upon a comfy, stuffed pillow, in a room with a stone floor. Surrounding him on the floor is a cat curled on another pillow, an apple, an old hat filled with coins, a flowering plant in a vase, and a lit candle. All items specifically related to the subject of the Fool. A very attractive engraved border frames the scene. The single inscription at the bottom introduces "THE FOOL."
