This tax guide provides a detailed and technical, yet easy-to-read, overview of the state sales tax rules for BOLD Precious Metals in Maine. BOLD Precious Metals is now required to collect state sales tax for sales to Maine customers. The following information details the updated state requirements for Maine.

"In Maine, the sales tax rules for precious metals depend on the type of item"

Taxable at State Sales Tax Rate:

  1. Rare or antique coins that were initially legal tender in the USA or other nations and whose value is determined by rarity, popularity, condition, and mintage, including uncirculated coins and proofs.

  2. Paper money that was initially considered legal tender in the USA or another country, with a market value determined by its scarcity, demand, and condition.

  3. Coins manufactured in the USA or other nations using pure metals such as gold, silver, platinum, or palladium, the value of which is set by changes in the global price of precious metals. According to 26 USCS § 408(m), such coins can be stored in an IRA and are often obtained as assets.

  4. Bars, ingots, or other products that include refined gold that is 99.5% pure or refined silver that is 99.9% pure or refined platinum that is 99.95% pure or higher or refined palladium that is 90% pure or greater but below the required fineness criteria.

Sales taxes in Maine are computed at checkout depending on the taxability of items offered by BOLD Precious Metals and the specific tax rates charged by the taxing authority of the delivery location in Maine.
