Silver - 5 oz Walking Liberty Round

The 5 oz Walking Liberty Silver Round reproduces Adolph Weinman's 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar design in 5 troy oz of .999 fine silver, Liberty striding toward the sun carrying oak and laurel branches on the obverse, and a standing eagle on the reverse. This is the same design the U.S. Mint formally resurrected in 1986 as the obverse of the American Silver Eagle, making this round a direct visual ancestor of the modern bullion coin. Every round shipped by BOLD undergoes XRF and Sigma Metalytics non-destructive testing to verify weight and purity before it leaves the warehouse.

Round Design

Obverse

The obverse depicts Liberty striding toward the sun, right arm outstretched, left arm carrying oak and laurel branches, with a starry cape and the Stars and Stripes flying behind her.

Reverse

The reverse features a standing eagle, wings partially uplifted, perched on a rock outcrop, with its right claw clutching a pine branch.

History of the Walking Liberty Design

The Walking Liberty Half Dollar was struck by the U.S. Mint from 1916 to 1947 — a thirty-one-year run — won by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman through a Commission of Fine Arts competition. Weinman also designed the Mercury Dime's fasces reverse struck during the same era. The high relief of the original strike often left visible weakness on Liberty's hand and leg and on the eagle's feathers, a known technical limitation of the period's minting presses — a production constraint that did nothing to diminish the design's reputation. In 1986, the U.S. Mint formally resurrected Weinman's Walking Liberty obverse for the newly issued American Silver Eagle bullion coin, where it remains in use today.

This 5 oz round reproduces that same enduring design at a larger bullion weight, its lineage running directly from Weinman's 1916 original to the most widely traded silver bullion coin in the world.

About the Walking Liberty Design

Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, the Walking Liberty design is regarded as one of the finest achievements in American coin artistry. Its enduring popularity led to its revival on the American Silver Eagle beginning in 1986, ensuring the design remains one of the most recognizable images in modern bullion. The 5 oz Walking Liberty Silver Round offers collectors and investors the opportunity to own this iconic design in a larger investment-grade silver format.
