About Valcambi Suisse

Valcambi opened in Balerna, Switzerland in 1961. Over sixty years later the refinery still processes more than 2,000 metric tons of precious metals a year and ships to central banks, institutional buyers, and private investors in over 70 countries.

Two things on the bar tell you it was done right. The CHI ESSAYEUR FONDEUR stamp means an independent assayer weighed and tested it before it left the facility. LBMA accreditation means every bank, exchange, and bullion dealer worldwide takes the bar without retesting it first. No discount at resale, no questions about provenance.

Liquidity & Resale

We only stock products we'd buy back. That's how we decide what goes on the site in the first place.

The 1 oz Valcambi is one of the most traded gold formats in North America. The sealed assay card and unique serial number let any dealer verify the bar in about ten seconds. When you're ready to sell, call us or put in a buyback request online. We quote off live spot price — no runaround, no waiting for a "manager."

Why a Gold Bar vs a Gold Coin?

We've been talking through this question with customers since 2015. The real answer depends on what you're trying to do.

Bars cost less per ounce. A gold bar doesn't need a government mint, die-struck relief, a face value, or collector-edition packaging. Those aren't free. On a comparable 1 oz purchase, a Valcambi bar typically runs 1–3% below a government coin at the same spot price. On a $4,000–$5,000 buy, that gap is worth thinking about.

Storage is simpler. The assay card is credit-card sized. Twenty-five bars fit in a single sealed refinery box and stack flat in a home safe or vault drawer.

Bars also sidestep numismatic risk. Government coins — especially popular ones from the U.S., Canada, or Australia — sometimes trade above their gold content because collectors want the design. That premium can shrink fast when demand shifts. A Valcambi bar has one price driver: the gold inside it.

The case for coins: fractional flexibility matters if you want to buy or sell in smaller pieces. Coins come in 1/10 oz and 1/4 oz sizes; bars mostly don't below 1 oz. And if you're thinking about selling to a private buyer rather than a dealer, a government coin is easier for a non-industry person to recognize. Those are real trade-offs — which is why a lot of our customers hold both.

Buying from BOLD Since 2015

We started in Austin, Texas in 2015. The premise was basic: sell gold and silver at honest prices, ship it fast, don't make it weird.

A+ rating from the BBB. 4.4/5 on Trustpilot. The reviews that come up most say the same things: fair price, quick delivery, bar showed up exactly as described.

Orders go out in discreet, fully insured packaging. If something arrives wrong, we make it right.
