The hourglass is one of the oldest forms of time keeping. Although used more as a way to keep track of the passage of time rather than a specific time, the hourglass had many uses. Believed to have been invented in the 8th century, it is still used today a way keep track of time, despite the many mechanical and digital options available today. Perth Mint has created a beautiful coin to commemorate the history of the hourglass. This 2021 Tuvalu Hourglass 2 oz Silver Antiqued coin is one piece that will stand the test of time!
As a legal tender offering of Tuvalu, the obverse displays the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II at the top center rim. Her Majesty is shown in right-profile relief. Inscriptions include: "QUEEN ELIZABETH II . 2oz 9999 Ag 2021 . 2 DOLLARS . TUVALU." Each coin is presented in a latex case and arrives in an illustrated shipper. A numbered Certificate of Authenticity is included.
As introduced by The Perth Mint, "With an antique finish conveying the surface abrasions of an ancient artefact, the coin portrays an astrological design incorporating sinuous, organic lines characteristic of art nouveau. Comprising representations of the sun and moon with facial features, and phases of the moon, the artistry (on the reverse) surrounds an hourglass insert filled with fine particles that mimic the flow of sand in an authentic device."
