The Coin Preservation Gold Standard.

To any serious collector, the most important thing is to preserve the condition of a coin. Irreversible damage that may be done by fingerprints, moisture in the environment, dust and airborne pollution can make a coin less beautiful and valuable. Capsules of the lighthouse coins are not frivolous items, they are the insurance of your collection. These capsules are the gold standard in preserving coins, manufactured by Leuchtturm, a German firm that was known to have a successful history of providing excellent solutions to archival storage since 1917. Every single capsule will be engineered to give you a secure airtight-like end seal which will preserve your investment over decades to come so that you can touch and show off your coins with total confidence.

The Lighthouse Advantage: Archivable Materials to ensure long-term safety.

The quality of your storage materials is the sole determinant of the long-term safety of your collection. Lighthouse capsules are made of a high quality and chemically inert acrylic. This plays a key role in preserving the archives as there is no PVC, acids, and chemical softeners in the material. Such toxic additives are present in low grade plastics and can leak out as time goes by forming a harmful coat in the surface of a coin or corroding it. Using Lighthouse, the coins might be certain that they are stored in a non-reactive and stable environment.

These are standard capsules that give a superior passive protection since they create a bodily shield against the surroundings. Lighthouse also has its premium ULTRA Intercept capsules available to those who want the best preservation as a collector. They come with a patented foam ring which offers active protection by trapping and neutralizing corrosive gases in the air before they can tarnish your coin and they will last up to 15 years.

A Collector Guide: How to use Your Capsules.

My coin capsules can be fully protected by proper handling and use.

The Safest Opening of a Lighthouse Coin Capsule.

Although Lighthouse capsules form a safe, friction fit lock, there are cases when you might need to open one. Otherwise, to break it without breaking your coin, which is the capsule, brute force is unnecessary. The suggested instrument is a sharp thin and durable item, e.g., a craft knife or a special capsule opener.

  1. Put the capsule on a flat and firm surface.
  2. Very carefully, put the very tip of the blade into the thin seam between the lid and the base.
  3. Turn the instrument laterally slightly. You can hear the seal a little popping as you start the seal.
  4. Additional repetitions of this at two or three locations around the edge of the capsule.
  5. When you open the seal in a few places, the lid must then come off with your fingertips. Do not attempt to open the entire capsule at one point, and this will crack the acrylic.

Handling and Care

When opening the halves of the capsule, never touch the inside with hands unless using an edge since this avoids leaving skin oils or dust on the inside. Wearing of cotton gloves is strongly encouraged when drawing a coin into a capsule so that there is no fingerprint on the coin itself or the holder.
