2023 Lunar Year of the Rabbit

Since 1992, The Perth Mint has gladly provided a distinctive new design celebrating the current year's animal, which symbolizes one of the ancient Chinese lunar calendar's 12 animals. In 2023, we celebrate the Year of the Rabbit, the fourth animal in the Chinese zodiac's 12-year cycle.

As noted by the mint, "According to one Chinese legend, the animals are in their order after a race across the river. The rabbit was in fourth place. The rabbit kept pace with the Tiger Proof got caught on a branch in the river. The dragon ended up saving the rabbit by using his breath to push the rabbit across the finish line. The personality traits of those born under this sign include intelligence, loyalty, and compassion."

Delightful Design

The obverse for the series represents the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the coin's 1/2 oz weight and 99.99 purity and the (AU) 1 Dollar face value as legal tender offerings by Australia.

The reverse of this 2023 Silver 1/2 oz Australia Perth Lunar Rabbit Proof coin captures an alert rabbit with its ears raised and another rabbit stretching toward a Prodding branch. Inscriptions include the Chinese character for the Year of the Rabbit and the phrase "Rabbit 2023." In addition, the iconic "P" Perth mintmark appears in the lower right corner.
