The Design: Obverse and Reverse

Obverse – Eric Bloodaxe at the Water's Edge

The obverse depicts Eric Bloodaxe standing defiantly at the edge of the water with his axe and shield raised high. Towering mountains rise behind the Viking ruler, creating a dramatic backdrop that reflects the harsh landscapes of Scandinavia and the warrior culture that shaped his life. The design showcases remarkable detail throughout. Traditional Norse knotwork decorates the blade of Eric's axe, while a coiled dragon appears prominently on his shield. His bearskin cape is intricately rendered, emphasizing both status and strength. Above the portrait, the inscription ERIC BLOODAXE identifies the legendary ruler portrayed on the round. The composition captures the determination and resilience of a man who spent much of his life fighting to secure and reclaim power.

Reverse – The Legendary Warriors Arsenal

The reverse features a striking arrangement of Viking weaponry displayed in a circular arsenal-style design.Axes, swords, spears, arrows, and a mace radiate outward from a central medallion, while a wooden bow frames the lower portion of the design. At the center, six arrows point inward toward a common focal point, symbolizing unity, strategy, and martial strength. The inscription LEGENDARY WARRIORS appears along the upper rim, while the weight and purity designation, 1 OZ .999 FINE SILVER, is displayed below.

Together, the reverse complements the obverse portrait by showcasing the weapons and tools associated with Viking warfare.

Who Was Eric Bloodaxe?

Eric Haraldsson, better known as Eric Bloodaxe, lived from approximately 895 to 954 AD during the height of the Viking Age.He was the son of Harald Fairhair, the king credited with unifying Norway into a single kingdom. Following his father's death, Eric inherited the Norwegian throne and ruled from 932 to 934 AD.His reign proved short-lived, however, as his younger brother Haakon the Good gained support among Norwegian nobles and forced him into exile. The nickname Bloodaxe became attached to Eric long before he lost the throne. According to Viking sagas, he eliminated several brothers who stood between him and royal succession.Whether these actions were driven by political necessity or personal ruthlessness remains debated by historians, but the stories cemented his reputation as one of the most feared rulers of the Viking world.Eric's wife, Gunnhild, daughter of Danish king Gorm the Old, was an influential political figure in her own right. Together, they became one of the most powerful and controversial couples of the Viking Age.

After leaving Norway, Eric established himself in England and became King of Northumbria, ruling from York. Although he was expelled and later restored to power, his final reign ended in 954 AD when he was ambushed and killed at the Battle of Stainmore. His death marked the end of Viking independence in York and helped secure Northumbria's permanent integration into the emerging English kingdom.

The Legendary Warriors Series

The Legendary Warriors series celebrates some of history's most renowned military leaders and warriors through detailed silver bullion designs. Each release focuses on a historical figure whose achievements, leadership, and battlefield legacy continue to inspire interest centuries after their death. As the first release in the collection, Eric Bloodaxe establishes the series' focus on powerful historical personalities paired with richly detailed artwork. Collectors who begin with this inaugural issue may find additional appeal as future releases expand the series and build upon its historical theme.

Why Many Investors Choose Silver Rounds

Privately minted silver rounds often provide an affordable way to acquire physical silver while maintaining the same weight and purity standards found in many government-issued bullion products.Because they do not carry legal tender status, silver rounds frequently trade at lower premiums than sovereign silver coins. This can allow investors to maximize the amount of silver they acquire while reducing overall acquisition costs. The Eric Bloodaxe Silver Round combines these advantages with a unique historical theme, making it appealing to both silver stackers and collectors interested in Viking history. Its status as the first release in a new series may also add long-term collector interest beyond its intrinsic silver value.
