Silver 2 oz 308 Caliber Bullet

The precision-made 2 oz. .308 Caliber Silver Bullet is a novelty bullion bar that is .999 fine silver and is made from a 2 oz .308 Caliber bar. Manufactured by Elemetal Mint, it is a 2-ounce silver coin that perfectly captures the profile and proportions of the .308 round and is a unique talking point in the bullion world.

A .308 Silver Bullet is a collectible that draws attention, whether it is put on display with a gun collection, given to a hunter or Second Amendment lover, or placed in a pile of patriotic American-themed silver.

It does not use any gunpowder, primer, or propellant in any way. It is simply a precious metals product that is bullet-shaped. Weight and purity are stamped on the base for instant verification.

Design

The silver bullet is made of the same material and has the exact exterior shape of the .308 Winchester cartridge—the rounded ogive at the tip through the boat tail—except for the purity and weight stamp on the base, which is positioned where a real bullet's primer would be.

What this creates is the most important aspect aesthetically: the level of accuracy to the original round when in hand; the weight balance and the profile of a live .308 round is recreated in solid .999 fine silver.

Variations in the surface from the minting process are normal, and each cast or minted bullet is not the same because they are not cut from a uniform die. This is not a defect but is a minor variation in the product.

A .308 Winchester Round to Remember

Winchester's .308 Winchester was a civilian hunting cartridge, first offered in a lighter version of the Model 70 bolt-action rifle in 1952. It was engineered to provide high kill power in a compact and efficient housing ideal for medium and large game, especially whitetail deer, elk, and bear on the continent's wide range.

Two years later, in 1954, NATO adopted a variant of the same cartridge as a military service rifle, known as 7.62×51mm NATO, the difference being the specification of chamber pressure and case wall thickness, but the same dimensions.

NATO adopted the .308 Winchester for its standard rifle round, and the .308 Winchester's reputation was established over seven decades of hunting, competitive shooting and military service.

Today, the .308 Winchester is one of the most popular rifle cartridges in North America, being used by hunters, long-range precision shooters and military forces around the world. The iconic status of this American gun makes it an interesting material for a silver bullion figurine.
