On the obverse is the Ian Rank-Broadley Fourth Portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (1998), which was the definitive portrait of the Commonwealth that was used for more than 20 years on coins.She's shown in profile, facing right.The inscriptions around it say "ELIZABETH II," "EASTERN CARIBBEAN," and the face value of $2.The inscription on the East adds the Eastern Caribbean to the legal tender framework of the ECCB, which includes all eight member states.
Reverse — The Warship
On the back is a full-rigged 18th-century sailing warship in colorful rendition.The boat is sailing at a slight angle to the wind, with its many square sails billowing open in the wind as it cuts across the open sea.Water is a vibrant, colorful blue and green (the tropical Caribbean beautifully rendered) over a sky that changes from pale to deep nautical blue.
All of the parts of the ship, including the hull, rigging, and gun ports, are embossed in a fine relief, and the applied color is used selectively to provide the appearance of a period naval painting in miniature.
