The Union Dollar was proposed to be a $100 coin of the United States Dollar but never came into existence. Here’s what happened! In 1854, a San Francisco businessman made a petition to the Treasury’s Secretary for a $50 dollar bill in California. This petition was accepted to be two gold Union Dollar coins with face value of $50 and $100; however, this idea for $100 (Union) was instantly defeated in the House.

George T Morgan still designed the $100 Union Dollar in 1876, in case the $50 half Union were to be a success. Unfortunately, the half Union coins were terms infeasible and hence this design for the Union was discarded and forgotten.
