2018 Silver 10 oz Chiwoo Cheonwang Medallion

The Republic of Korea and KOMSCO take great pleasure in announcing the 10 oz edition of the third silver bullion medallion in the Chiwoo Cheonwang series. This 2018 Silver 10 oz Chiwoo Cheonwang Medallion is a stunning addition to the on-going bullion series. Chiwoo Cheonwang was introduced in 2016 as the first silver bullion produced by the South Korean State Mint. That inaugural release took the world by storm, as it was universally praised for its striking design and stunning production quality.

Now in its third edition, the style and detail of the medallion's design continues to surprise us! And, as amazing as the 1 oz edition was, the presentation on the larger field provided by the 10 oz 40 mm diameter is absolutely remarkable! Produced in limited mintage of only 500 for global distribution, this release will obviously be snatched up by investors and collectors alike.

Do ggae bi!

The obverse, though common to the series, is anything but common! Displayed in exquisite detail is "Do ggae bi," which should always be pronounced with an exclamation point! Do ggae bi (!) is a mythical figure from Korean lore that had the power to protect from evil spirits. The actual design used is from a roof tile dating from the Silla Dynasty. This kingdom ruled over south-eastern Korea during the very important Three Kingdoms period, extending from the 1st century BC to 7th century AD.

Inscriptions include "REPUBLIC OF KOREA" encircling the top rim, and "2018 FINE SILVER 999" at the left rim, with "10 CLAY" at the right. Below the image is a unique, latent image engraving, that very faintly displays, "999" in a small circle. "KOMSCO" logo is inscribed at the bottom rim.

Interestingly, the "10 Clay" is a new measurement developed by KOMSCO. It references the number of clay units of 1 troy oz of the metal. The word clay is considered to be of the soil, out of which the metal was derived.

Incredibly Powerful Design

The reverse is incredible in its finely detailed depiction of Chiwoo Cheonwang, astride a warhorse, in the fierce throes of battle. The scene is displayed from the vantage of Chiwoo's adversary as the battle unfolds. The steed's mane is tossed wildly as Chiwoo presses him ever forward. Chiwoo's face is set like flint upon his enemy. His piercing eyes have found the mark, which his massive sword will most surely be plunged without mercy.

He is arrayed in intricately detailed battle armor protecting his shoulders, chest and thighs. The designs depicted on the armor also reference those of the period. His helmet has two sharp horns attached, which reference further mythological aspects associated with Chiwoo. His large cloak flows behind him, adding to the intense action depicted in the scene. Chiwoo Cheonwang is renowned as the God of War, and this amazing detailed design certainly displays his fierce, powerful presence!

This 2018 Silver 10 oz Chiwoo Cheonwang Medallion is absolutely remarkable in its fine detail and production excellence. With a mere 500 mintage, these will certainly disappear in a flash! Please don't delay, Chiwoo Cheonwang would not look favorably on such hesitation!

History

The Chiwoo 1 oz medallion series was introduced in 2016 as the first silver bullion medallion offering of the Republic of Korea. Mintage was capped at 30,000. That inaugural release was so highly successful, the resulting series was born. The 2017 release was also received with much praise for the distinctive design and fine production quality. Mintage for it was increased to 50,000.

The 2018 1 oz third edition has proven to be even more successful, as world-wide acclaim has continues to build. Mintage was set at 45,000.
