Silver 2 oz Scottsdale Round Stacker

The 2 oz Scottsdale Mint STACKER® Silver Round is one of the most true-to-the-theory offerings in the private-mint silver market—a round that not only is an investment-grade bullion offering but also a trusted engineering solution to the ever-present challenge of keeping rounds of bullion from sliding, rolling, and creating unstable stacks.

This round is produced by Scottsdale Mint, an Arizona-based private mint, ISO 9001:2015 certified and recognized worldwide for design innovation and responsible sourcing practices, and is made of 2 troy ounces .999 fine silver in ultra-high relief to a design that makes the interlock stacking mechanism practical and aesthetically pleasing. It looks nothing like a coin or a bar; it's a round of its own, with precision engineering that ensures that each piece clicks to the next in perfect fashion.

The STACKER® Engineering: How It Works and Why It Matters

To understand the STACKER® design, one must first understand the overall issue being addressed. Like all round items, standard silver rounds will roll, slide, and stack unstably. A column of standard 1 oz silver rounds is prone to falling over sideways when vibrated. They cannot be held in an upright column without a tube or holder, and even when held in tubes, they move against each other with each movement.

The STACKER® series addresses all this with three interwoven design mechanisms that are put into action:

Convex Obverse / Concave Reverse

The obverse of each round is convex, and the reverse of each round is concave, so that the rounds can be stacked. The convex raised lion head on one round fits into the complementary concave depression on the underside of the other round. This means it is self-aligned and self-centering: the rounds do not have to be carefully positioned; they move into place on their own and secure themselves.

Interlocking Radial Lines

The edges of the ring are provided with an interlocking system by means of radial lines. Each side of each round is divided into a series of raised and lowered radial lines around the perimeter of the round. These lines interlock with each other when one round is laid on the other, with the raised lines fitting into the lowered grooves, thus giving a second level of interlocking action to stop rotation and lateral movement. The stack remains as it is placed.

Uniform Diameter Across All Three Weights

The STACKER® rounds are unique because they are able to stack different rounds of different weights in one pile. These are offered in 100 gram, 2 troy oz, and 5 troy oz samples. Each round has the same dimensions in terms of diameter, so from the top each looks to be the same size. The main difference is that, when viewed from the side, the thickness of each round varies, with the 5 Troy oz round being the thickest. They are all the same diameter, as it allows the 3D design to interlock with another round, either by stacking two 5 Troy oz rounds or one from each weight category.

The cross-weight compatibility is the special feature that sets the STACKER® series apart from all other stackable products available in the market. If an investor has the 2 oz rounds, 5 oz rounds, and 100g rounds, they can stack them all in a single column, and all the contacts will lock. The 2 oz round is the easiest way to get into this cross-compatible ecosystem.

Design Description

Reverse: Scottsdale Crowned Lion in Ultra-High-Relief

On the obverse side, Scottsdale Mint's hallmark, a stoic male lion's head featuring a full flowing mane and a regal crown, is featured. Since the mint's inception, this crowned lion has been the hallmark on Scottsdale Mint's minted products, and one of the most widely recognized private-mint hallmarks in the bullion marketplace. The lion's face is struck in the STACKER® ultra-high relief, which offers a sculptural quality of the face that catches light from multiple angles and makes the round seem extremely visible, even though it weighs only 2 oz.

There is no text engraving on the obverse. The pattern of rays at the outer edge and the lion image cover the entire field. The convex raising is the stacking mechanism because the obverse is clean, engraving-free; text engravings would detract from the precise geometry of the obverse surface that is necessary for reliable interlocking.

Reverse: Incuse Lion with Full Authentication Inscriptions

The obverse has the engineering counterpart, the reverse. Here the same crowned image of the lion is found but struck incuse (carved in, not raised up from the surface) with the matching concave impression that receives the obverse of the round stacked on top of it. The mechanism is based on this opposition between the positive and negative sides of the two parts, which is the STACKER® principle.

The reverse is inscribed with the following around the rim: 2 TROY OZ · 999 FINE SILVER · SCOTTSDALE MINT · STACKER ROUND. They do not encroach on the inclusive design field of the center and are completely authentic and identifiable.

About Scottsdale Mint

Josh Phair founded Scottsdale Mint in 2007 in Scottsdale, Arizona, to create precious metals products that were more than the mundane and derivative. Within 20 years after its inception, the mint has expanded to cater to consumers, banks, institutions, and sovereign governments around the world from its facilities in both Scottsdale, Arizona and Casper, Wyoming.

Scottsdale Mint is an ISO 9001:2015 certified company that is dedicated to uniting innovation, creativity, quality, and efficiency into all of their finished products. All items conform to ASTM standards, and Scottsdale offers a 100% guarantee of purity, weight, and content.

Scottsdale Mint not only offers a great selection of Precious Metal IRA approved products, but they are also known for having sustainable refining practices that involve reclaiming a majority of their silver bullion from the photography and manufacturing sectors. This award-winning recycling method produces high-purity (at least .999) silver, which meets ASTM standards, without the environmental impact of newly mined metal. Scottsdale Mint's sourcing is a difference-maker for those who want to know the ecological impact of silver investments.

Anti-counterfeit solutions like anti-counterfeit serialized bars and Certi-Lock tamper-evident assay cards with mobile verification are often included in Scottsdale to ensure that buyers can verify the authenticity of their products after purchase. The STACKER® itself is another anti-counterfeiting measure: The precision engineering of the interlocking mechanism demands production-quality minting presses and equipment to be cast or simply pressed to produce the same result.

Why the 2 oz Format?

The 2 oz denomination is the starting weight of the STACKER® series and the simplest weight to assemble a cross-compatible collection. Comparing it to the other series weights will help the buyer to choose the right series weight to achieve their goals.

2 oz vs. 100 gram

The 2 oz round (62.2 g) contains more silver than the 100 gram round (100 g = 3.22 troy oz—wait: actually 100 grams = 3.22 troy oz, more than the 2 oz). The 100g round is a bit more silver per piece but has a different diameter profile and the same stacking surface. The 2 oz is the smallest initial investment in the series and the thinnest profile—most convenient for buyers looking to have the STACKER® design at the cheapest per-piece price.

2 oz vs. 5 oz

The 5 oz round is thicker than the 2 oz, and has a higher weight of silver, but the premium is lower per ounce. The uniform engineering makes both interlock the same as the 2 oz. Silver coin and round buyers may prefer to purchase a mix of 5 ounce and 2 ounce rounds to create a larger silver position.

Cross-Series Stacking

The big difference between the 2 oz format and the STACKER® ecosystem is that you're able to stack any 2 oz, 5 oz, and 100g rounds together in any order. If a collector begins collecting 2 oz rounds, they can easily add rounds of 5 oz to the same column at a later time without losing alignment or stability. Such flexibility ensures that your initial buying decisions are not the same for life.

IRA Eligibility

The Scottsdale STACKER® Silver Round is .999 fine silver, the minimum purity requirement for the IRS to accept the precious metal into a Self-Directed Precious Metals IRA. It is a product of an ISO 9001:2015 Private U.S. Mint, and accepted by most qualifying individual retirement account custodians. Please check with your custodian for any special requirements for the acceptance of any specific product in an IRA, in addition to the purity requirements above.

The STACKER® Round outperforms its competitors in every aspect. The STACKER® Round is better than the alternatives in every way.

Only silver rounds featuring triple-mechanism interlocking of convex/concave opposing faces, radial rim lines, and uniform cross-weight diameter compatibility of 100g, 2 oz and 5 oz series. ISO 9001:2015 certified production. Recycled silver sourcing. Scottsdale crowned lion hallmark is recognised worldwide. IRA-eligible. For stackers who want a combination of purpose and style, this is the definitive option.

Scottsdale Mint 5 oz STACKER® Silver Round: Identical design, mechanism and cross-compatibility, but 5 troy ounces per round. Thicker profile with more silver per piece, lower per-ounce premium. The preferred option for larger silver purchases where the buyer wishes to keep premiums to a minimum while still being 100% STACKER® compatible.

For 10 oz: the bar format of Scottsdale's stacking series features a slightly different stacking mechanism and precision beveled edges that interfit into a matching inset but still provide the same storage benefit of stacking. The bar is the better format for investors with only storage efficiency and a lower per-ounce premium in mind; the round is the better option for investors who wish to enjoy the sculptural quality of the lion design in ultra-high relief.

2 oz Silver Rounds (non-stackable): Silver rounds come in different mints and are produced in a basic format (standard relief, flat field, no interlocking). These have lower premiums than the STACKER® round and are fine for those who aren't stackability-oriented. The STACKER® offers a premium that is specifically for the engineering investment built into it, and for those that will actually stack their rounds, the price is worth it.

Standard 1 oz Silver Rounds: The most liquid and most widely traded form of silver round. Lower per-piece costs and maximum dealer recognition are available from dozens of mints. However, if buyers only wanted to buy silver for silver alone, at the lowest premium and highest secondary market liquidity, then standard 1 oz rounds would be the best bet. The STACKER® 2 oz round offers design differences, stackability, and weight, in addition to bullion value, making it a better option for buyers seeking these attributes.
