For the sixth coin release of this extremely popular Eastern Caribbean (EC8) island series, Scottsdale Mint proudly introduces this stunning 2018 1 oz Gold Anguilla ? Lobster BU coin. The Eastern Caribbean 2018 Gold Bullion Coin Program is forging ahead amidst strong international acclaim. That really shouldn't be a surprise, considering this is a fresh new international market that has opened to the precious metals community.
With only two releases left to go to finalize this amazing Eastern Caribbean Island series, we pause to reflect on the releases to date. Each edition has brought focus upon one of the most distinctive aspects of the island in view. The designs have been spot-on in capturing a sense of these special places, rich in history and culture. The beauty of each unique culture and the wondrous island environments are inspirational in their presentation. This is certainly a series that Scottsdale can be proud to have been instrumental in bringing to life!
Although each of the ECCB Island counties receive international recognition for their local cuisine, Anguilla is generally known as the "Culinary Capital of the Caribbean." With the focus on locally caught seafood, particularly shellfish, cultural influences bring out the best of African, French, Creole, and Spanish dishes, all with a distinctive Caribbean flair! This, as well as the fact that lobster is one of Anguilla's leading seafood exports, is wonderfully represented in the coin's design.
The obverse is common to all eight EC8 2018 releases. The inset features the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Distinctive laurels of evergreen shrubs frame the portrait on either side, nearly filling the center inset. A narrow band encircles the rim, which includes the inscriptions, "EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK" at the top, and "1 oz .999 GOLD . QUEEN ELIZABETH II . 10 DOLLARS" at the bottom rim.
The reverse is filled with a wonderfully stylized lobster design. It is surrounded by a very active flair of swirling ocean waves and water droplets. Encircling the rim are a series of dots that become increasingly smaller as they descend towards the bottom of the rim. Inscriptions include "ANGUILLA" in large type at the top, and "2018" in one of the lobster's shell segments. The overall design is certain to be well received!
