The Republic of Congo Gorilla 2016 Silver Proof (Colored) is the second one issued in the Scottsdale Mint Silverback Gorilla series and is still one of the most popular releases of the programme. This proof in colour is one of the rarest single-issue releases in the entire Brilliant Uncirculated series, with just 2,500 minted globally. It is minted by Scottsdale Mint, and has been issued under an official agreement with the government of the Republic of Congo, making it 5,000 Francs CFA legal tender.
The 2016 reverse doesn't show the silverback in action like the later Gorilla series releases, but instead uses a close-up shot, with the gorilla's head taking up almost the entire frame. The colorization detail is the dominant visual feature. Scottsdale Mint uses a multi-layer color process that gives the recessed reverse field natural brown and black tones while preserving the realistic appearance of the silverback's fur.
