The 2023 1 oz Samoa Jesus Collection—The Teacher Silver Coin is the third of Scottsdale Mint's highly successful and celebrated Jesus Collection series, a sovereign precious metals program issued as legal tender by the Government of Samoa and designed with the same precision and artistry to honor the life and teachings of Jesus Christ that Scottsdale Mint brings to all its sovereign programs.
This release, which is limited to 15,000 worldwide, is a tribute to Jesus as The Teacher—a term used in John 13:13: "You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am."
Each coin offered in this series also makes an $8.00 contribution to Christian ministry via Scottsdale Mint's Coins for Charity program, which is one of the rare silver coins with a purchase fee that benefits a charitable cause.
The Reverse Profile — The Teacher is Jesus!
On the back of the coin, Jesus Christ is depicted as The Great Teacher, wearing a robe, with a halo, and his right hand raised in the teaching gesture used in the Gospels.
He has an open Bible that has the Greek symbols Alpha (α) and Omega (ω), the beginning and end of the Greek alphabet, appearing in the Book of Revelation as the beginning and the end of all things, which he holds open.
The iconography is well to the point and in the tradition of the Eastern Orthodox Church:
The outcome is a coin that not only offers numismatic art but also sacred iconography in .999 fine silver.
The Obverse Profile — Samoa's Coat of Arms
The obverse is the official Coat of Arms of Samoa, a shield with the five stars of the Southern Cross, a coconut palm symbolizing Pacific culture, and a cross with radiating rays symbolizing Samoa's strong Christian heritage.
The design is surrounded by the national motto of Samoa: "FA'AVAE I LE ATUA SAMOA"—"God be the Foundation of Samoa." The face value "2 TALA" is a confirmation of the coin's legal tender status.
However, the combination of Samoa's national motto, derived from a distinctly Christian text, and the subject of the Jesus Collection is not random: no other country could boast such a natural sovereignty as the Kingdom of Samoa.
These are the places where you can find them.
The Jesus Collection was launched by Scottsdale Mint as a numismatic series and a charitable effort — all coins sold go towards Scottsdale Mint's Coins for Charity program, the $8.00 per coin going to Christian ministries such as GlobalFingerprints, a program dedicated to creating and equipping schools for children with special needs in Gemena, Congo.
To date, three annual releases have been made:
The size of the coins is included on the Jesus Collection series page of the Scottsdale Mint and the Scottsdale Mint Coins for Charity page.
